Event Staff Dress Code Guide: What to Wear for Each Role
By MyEventMitra Team · Updated 4 November 2026 · 4 min read
Dress code is the first thing a coordinator checks when you report. Getting it right shows you are prepared, and getting it wrong can mean being sent home. Always follow the organizer's instructions over any general advice.
Common dress codes
- Formal: black or navy trousers or skirt, plain white or black shirt, formal shoes.
- Semi-formal: plain shirt or polo with chinos or dark trousers, clean closed shoes.
- All black: common for crew, ushers and backstage roles.
- Event T-shirt: provided by the organizer; you add plain dark bottoms and shoes.
- Traditional: sometimes requested for weddings and cultural events.
By role
Registration and guest relations roles are usually formal. Promoters often wear a brand T-shirt with dark jeans or trousers. Crew and logistics staff need practical clothes and closed shoes because they lift and move things. Hostess and welcome roles may have a specific outfit, which the organizer will describe.
Grooming that organizers notice
- Neat hair, clean nails and ironed clothes.
- Minimal perfume and accessories.
- Comfortable shoes you can stand in for hours.
- A small kit: safety pins, comb, tissues.
Frequently asked questions
What if I do not own the required clothes?
Ask the organizer before accepting. Some provide uniforms or T-shirts. Do not accept a role if you cannot meet the dress code, because you may be turned away on the day.
