What to Do If You Are Not Paid for Event Work
By MyEventMitra Team · Updated 4 November 2026 · 5 min read
Most organizers pay on time, but delays happen, and occasionally someone does not pay at all. A few simple habits make payment problems much rarer and much easier to solve.
Prevent problems before the event
- Get the pay amount and the payment date in writing; a WhatsApp message counts.
- Know the organizer's name, company and phone number.
- Prefer organizers with a complete profile and past events.
- Be careful with offers that keep changing details or avoid writing anything down.
Keep simple records
For every event, note the date, venue, role, hours worked, the person who hired you and the agreed pay. Keep the chat messages and any photos from the event. These records make follow-ups clear and hard to dispute.
Follow up politely
If the agreed date passes, send a short, polite message with the details: event name, date, your role and the amount. Many delays are honest mistakes. If there is no reply, follow up again after a day or two, and then call.
If payment still does not come
Report the organizer's listing or profile on the platform so others are warned. For larger amounts, you can seek advice from a local legal aid service or the labour department in your state. Keep all your records together in case you need them.
Never pay to get paid
Anyone who asks you to pay a fee to release your payment, or asks for your UPI PIN to "send" you money, is trying to take money from you. You never need a PIN to receive money.
Frequently asked questions
Does MyEventMitra pay workers?
No. Organizers pay workers directly according to the terms agreed between them. That is why getting the terms in writing matters.
